Nominees for Executive Council, Court of Adjudication and Board of Regents Announced

The 2024 Nominating Committee presents the candidates named below for positions to be elected at the Online Mission Convocation, taking place on Friday, August 9.

We believe that all the individuals named are qualified and would do well in their service if elected.

During the interim between Convocations, the Executive Council shall implement the work and policies of the NALC and shall act for the NALC, subject in all matters to review of its actions by subsequent convocations.

This year, the Convocation elects one clergyperson and one layperson to the Executive Council for three-year terms.

  • The Rev. Kristen Phillips, Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church— Jacksonville, Florida, United States; nominated by St. Luke’s Lutheran Church—Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States

The nominee for the lay position on Executive Council is:

  •  Mrs. Kathaleen F. Lilley, Messiah Lutheran Church—Lebanon, Pennsylvania, United States; nominated by Salem Lutheran Church—Elizabethville, Pennsylvania, United States

The Court of Adjudication has jurisdiction to decide appeals from disciplinary decisions, questions regarding interpretation of the NALC’s governing documents, and claims that any person, body or entity has violated the governing documents of the NALC.

This year, one individual (clergy or lay) will be elected to a three-year term on the Court of Adjudication. The 2024 candidates are as follows (name, congregational membership, and nominating congregation):

  • Mr. Samuel Duncomb, Peace Lutheran Church—Northwood, Iowa, United States; nominated by St. Peter Lutheran Church—Stettler, Alberta, Canada

  • The Rev. Ken Reed, St. James Lutheran Church—Newton, North Carolina, United States; nominated by St. James Lutheran Church—Newton, North Carolina, United States

The NALS Board of Regents is a group of 9 to 12 people who commit their time and talents to act as the governing body of the North American Lutheran Seminary (NALS). Among their numerous duties, the Board of Regents appoints, advises, and evaluates the president of the NALS, and also determines the hiring of faculty members and staff persons.

Two individuals (clergy or lay) will be elected to a five-year term. The 2024 candidates are as follows (name, current congregation, and nominating congregation):

  • The Rev. Alliyah (Greaver) Blakeley, St. John Lutheran Church—Greenville, Ohio, United States; nominated by Reformation Lutheran Church—Culpeper, Virginia, United States

  • The Rev. Dr. Judson Merrell, St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church— Lexington, South Carolina, United States; nominated by Union Lutheran Church—Salisbury, North Carolina, United States

  •  The Rev. Mark Metze, Annapolis Lutheran Church—Edgewater, Maryland, United States; nominated by Holy Trinity Lutheran Church—Little Mountain, South Carolina, United States

  •  The Rev. Alan Peacock, Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church— Jacksonville, Florida, United States; nominated by Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church—Jacksonville, Florida, United States

The Nominating Committee is still seeking additional candidates for positions being elected at the August Online Mission Convocation: 

Executive Council—two positions open (one clergy, one lay); 3-year term

Court of Adjudication—one position open (clergy or lay); 3-year term

Board of Regents—two positions open (clergy or lay); 5-year term

To qualify, three or more confirmed delegates to the upcoming convocation representing at least three congregations, must together submit an additional nomination. The nomination and biographical information from the candidate must be submitted to the Nominating Committee no later than June 25.
