The Rev. Dr. David Wendel

Assistant to the Bishop for Ministry & Ecumenism, NALC

Pastor Wendel was born and raised in Columbus, Indiana. He graduated from Indiana University, in Bloomington, IN, with a B.A. in Speech Communication. He is a 1981 graduate of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, having served his internship at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Los Alamos, N.M. He earned a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching degree from the Association of Chicago Theological Schools in 2001 and completed the course “Ecumenism and Inter-Faith Relations” in Rome, offered by the Atonement Friars in 2011. Pastor Wendel and his wife, Susan, currently live in Jacksonville, FL, and are members of Shepherd of the Woods, NALC. They have two adult children, Christopher, an NALC pastor serving as an active duty Army chaplain (Captain) Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, and Rebekah, married to a U.S. Army Sergeant Major (James), Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Susan and David have four grandchildren. David enjoys walking for exercise and reading!
